View Full Version : Books
I dont know if any of you are like me and read alot, but I thought this could be a place for you to say what books you have read and reccommend to other people as well as hear others views on it. Also you could possibly find a new project for your reading pleasure.
I'll start off by saying that Stephen King is possibly the most prolific writer of the 20th century. I am currently reading the 4th book in his "Dark Tower" series "Wizard and Glass". The series was inspired by the Robert Browning poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" and i am deeply entrenched in the dark, post apocolyptic and magical world that King has created in these books. The first book, "The Gunslinger", follows the story of Roland of Gilead, the last of all gunslingers(a peacemaker of sorts whos skills with a revolver are that of a god) and his pursuit of the "man in black" through the desert wastelands of his world.
I cannot stress how great these books are. If you enjoy a good story pick up these books and be ready to be taken down a long, dark and mystical road into the world of the Dark Tower.
Also i wanted to pick up "The Satanic Verses" by Salmon Rushdie which, if you dont know, is the novel that earned him a death sentence by Muslim leaders.
Summary: Two actors from India, "prancing" Gibreel Farishta and "buttony, pursed" Saladin Chamcha, are flying across the English Channel when the first of many implausible events occurs: the jet explodes. As the two men plummet to the earth, "like titbits of tobacco from a broken old cigar," they argue, sing and are transformed. When they are found on an English beach, the only survivors of the blast, Gibreel has sprouted a halo while Saladin has developed hooves, hairy legs and the beginnings of what seem like horns. What follows is a series of allegorical tales that challenges assumptions about both human and divine nature.(taken from Amazon.com)
The only problem i have with reading this is that it uses alot of Hindi words and requires some knowledge of the Hindu and Muslim religion, but what book doesnt challenge you to learn more I say.

I personally like to read the Redwall Series from Brian Jacques. It is about mice and other small animals but is made into a mystery and action. It might sound as a boring book to you and it was to me at first but after I read the first book I really liked it.
yea ive read those
i read redwall, salamandastrom, outcast of redwall, the one about the hero, and pearls of lutra
those are pretty good but theyre kinda made for a younger audience
theyre good for kids that want to get into more extreme authors like tolkien

I'm more into Danielle Steel. Lol, kidding.
I'm not much of a reader, but I liked the books we were supposed to read in high school. Which is ironic considering I didn't read much of them in hs when I should have. Classics like...Of Mice and Men, To Kill A Mockingbird. Few others that I can't think of right now. R.L. Stine and his Fear Street books are good for the kids.
