No fucking ****, sherlock, there's always a risk when you do something.

1)Use Proxies, Firewalls, and constantly monitor your internet connections through either standard win32 progs, or use command.com/cmd.exe - netstat, nbtstat, tracert, etc (make sure you actually know what the **** you're doing)

2)Never use your own computer

3)Use cryptography, encryption, etc

4)Every 2 months or so, reformat your hard drive using a low level format, (wipe everything clean with file/disk/partition cleaning tools beforehand), and reinstall, or even change operating systems (eg Win9x to Linux to OpenBSD), or even computers (ie Mac)

5)When you use the internet, if it's not your own computer, make sure it's at least 30-40 miles away from where you are, and know how to cover your tracks.

As for older computer components, it doesn't really matter... if you do take the risk, and get caught... if they have your mac address.. the same one still in the same computer the crime was committed from.... you're fucked... period. And I'm nowhere near as stupid as you try to make me out to be kane, so don't even try to pull that one.

get a cheap dedicated server connect to that to do whatever you want, then delete the logs, when you get e-mails asking you for the logs from your server because someone was using them for illegal activites, you reply telling them that the logs have been removed and that they are removed on a daily basis.

thats just an idea, bear in mind i dont do anything illegal.

Perhaps since you lack the ability to comprehend most of what I say, I'll spell it out for you.

(And yes pug... data can be retrieved from a hard disk even after it's been formatted.)

You'll noticed that I made reference to file/disk/partition cleaning tools. You know what they do? Typically they run data passes over the hard drive any number of times (as much as the user specifies) with either random, patterned, or null (ascii char 0 which IS a character) data. 56 data passes is considered enough to sufficiently destroy any conceivable data that may be on the disk, including the cluster tips. And to top that off, there is something called "defrag" which further complicates data recovery by completely wiping out any previous data. But since you obviously know nothing of this Kane, it's safe to say that we can all call you a poser.

best way to rid of evidence isn't to printover it.. isn;t to write info until it possibly gone... the only way is to completely destroy it.break it into pieces pay 40 for a new h/d simple. honeslty id i dont real;y read post i speed read them.. read a few lines get a broad idea.. if you typed allthat i missed it.. i only seen do low level formats and pointedout the fbi can go back on drives and retrieve info. as the man i am i can admit when i missed somethign and i did.. but i still qwouldn;t trust it. i;d just destroy the drive and geta new one if i did that serious of a crime.

Kane, you are such a fucking idiot. They also have tools that can still retrieve data from a hard drive after it is destroyed by scanning whatever magnetic bytecode is still on it, assuming the information you would have on said hard drive is sensitive and or illegal information and as such, would make you want to destroy it in the first place, which makes it all that much more incriminating to begin with. And Kane, if you knew the first thing about electronic media, it's that the best way to get rid of the information AND keep using it is to in fact.... keep writing over it with randomized/null/patterned data.
