Does anyone know how many partitions you are allowed to have on a single hard drive?
I have one book that says I can have as many as I want as long as I have the available drive letters. So, it appears that I can have:
C: MS_DOS
D: Second Partition
E: Third Partition
F: Fourth Partition
G: Fifth Partition
etc, etc, up to 'Z'
I have another book that says I can only have 4 partitions on a single hard drive.
Anyone have any information on this?

Drive Letters = Number of drives you can have. A-Z

This is funny, all the problems you are wanting to conquer is exactly what my Computer Engineering Tech class has been doing the past two days.

One word: FDISK
With fdisk, you can set up as many partitions on your drive as you want, as long as you have enough "letters" to do so. To make it even more simple... fdisk tells you what you need to do in order to get the job done :D.

OK, one book and two people tell me that I can have as many partitions as I want (as long as I have the available letters) so I guess the answer is obvious. The book that said only 4 partitions then is a bunch of crap and I am going to take it back to the book store for a refund.

Yeah, we had to setup our boot sequence to the A: Drive then going to the fdisk and deleting the partions with a program called "part wizard" something and deleted the partions and tomorrow I forgot what we are going to do.

Actually FDISK does it all. So, you don't need "part wizard"
Partition Magic is a store bought application that can do it all also and it has the advantage of re-partitioning your HD without deleting any existing partitions, which is very cool if all you want to do is to add more partitions to an already existing HD and you dont need to worry about deleting your existing partitions. Also, unlike FDISK, Partition Magic can format for other Operating Systems (like UNIX) which FDISK is for DOS only.
