Everytime I post a question about my PC problems you guys have been very helpful in giving me good advice and in all cases have helped me resolve the problems. Thanks all.

How, here is my latest situation...

I have two PCs. Both have the same OS (Windows 98) and both are configured the same.

I bought a new hard drive and jumpered it to be the Slave drive.

On PC #1 I mounted it, plugged in the cable connector (using a dual connector where one connector goes to the 'C' drive and the other goes to the new drive as the 'D' drive (which is now a Slave). I boot up Windows and there the new drive is visible and accessable. OK, everything is fine after formatting it.

Later, I changed my mind and decided to put it over on PC #2. So, I shut down PC#1, removed the hard drive and mounted it on PC#2 as a second drive exactly the same as I did on PC #1.

Now, when I power up PC #2 it never gets past the POST and it just sits there. No matter how many times I try to boot it just doesn't boot up.

I removed the drive and put another hard drive in as a second drive and this time it booted up and the Windows 98 OS came up. I removed that drive, put back the new one and tried to boot again. Same problem, PC #2 does not boot.

So, I took it off and mounted it back on PC #1 and again everything was OK.

Why does it work on PC #1 but does not work on PC #2? I have other hard drives that I can mount on PC #2 as a slave and there is no problems but when it comes down to the new one it only works on PC #1 and when it is mounted on PC #2 then nothing comes up. Very strange to me.

Can anyone open up my eyes over this matter?

I see what you mean, maybe the cables aren't in the right position or something, I don't know what would cause it to be doing that. Trying going to the BIOS and seeing if their are any options there.

Thanks for your response, Sniper, but the problem is resolved. Here is the reason:

As I mentioned, both PCs have the same Windows OS and are configured the same. It turns out that this problem has nothing to do with the OS. It does, however, have alot to do with the PC itself.

PC #1 (where it works correctely) is a newer PC. So, the jumper setting was correct for this PC. But I read more indepth and found that it said if you have an older model PC (which is exactly what PC #2 is) and the system locks up after the installation that I should try the 'alternate' jumper setting to resolve this problem.

So, for PC #1 (the newer model) I only had to jumper the 3 and 4 pins but for PC #2 (the older model) I also must jumper the 1 and 2 pins.

I didn't realize that PC #2 was that much older than PC #1 but I guess it is or it uses older technology. Hit me in the head and take away my priveledges for being so dumb as not to read the installation manual throughly. Next time, I will READ EVERYTHING.

Anyway thats it.

P.S. I did read the manual throughout its just that I didn't understand what they were trying to tell me so I just 'skimmed' over it.
