Being afk without getting d/c

OK so since I have xp now I just leave my computer on all the time. I have myself at a table and when I want to get off the computer I just switch user. How come sometimes I get disconnected and sometimes I don't? And these are for long periods of times, like 3 hours, 8 hours.
