question about the ladder [Archive]

I was sort of busy when yahoo decided to get rid of ladders, so I don't know what really happened. When looking at the chess ladder, the top 10 or so are all names that seem to be in perfect working order, and then you have 900 that all do not work.. were these names all deactivated just because they were on the ladder? Also, why didn't yahoo just get rid of the whole ladder instead of hiding it?

I realize that..I can get by with my PERL abilities, but thanks anyways. First of all, why didn't yahoo just get rid of the ladder instead of just hiding it? but also, does anyways know for sure that the old ladder tricks won't work?

The ladder rating trick dont work anymore..but spk to -secret- ...meant to be borth but i dont know if he is..he claims he has a rating trick!I dont think any1 can know why they didnt get rid of ladder...probably coz all the ids gota be deactivated from ladder 1st!Bet they didnt figure people would go and play there and there isnt much point anyway! lol

if you look at the ladder standings, you'll see that almost all the names on the ladder were deactivated by yahoo. Why would yahoo do that to everyone on the ladder instead of just people who were violating rules?

Yahoo filled ladder rooms up with deactivated Id's so that no one will go into the room and get in the top 100. Cause they knew that couldn't delete the room totally.

i think they might have already been deactivated in the past so they just used them.

Yea. They only used deactivated ids that were already deactivated. So now you know how many peoples Ids got deactivated for spamming, and other crap. Just a warning.

what gets me is that you can sign up for any of those previously deactivated IDs..and the illegals still work..yahoo is so stupid

go to view the chess ladder, then look at say, rung 200. If its not an illegal, you can register it..at least it was like that on the checks ladder

No, once a id is made and then deactivated you can't make that id. It still exists, just no one can get on it.

on the chess ladder, the first 40 or so names are names that have been used recently, so they aren't deactivated, but almost all the rest are, baring illegal names for some reason.

ya..for a working example, go to chess ladder and look up the name that is on run 200. If its an illegal name, don't bother, but if its a normal name, you can make that id. try it..it should work. My question is why yahoo would do this..it seems really stupid, but then again, yahoo is really stupid

Ive seen eronj on 2 ids..they were eronj and eronj2 i think!Im quite sure he probbly has most of em!..he plays games too...not just dooes yahoo stuff! Check his profiles!He has been speaking 2 alot of people...i beat him @ chess though! lol... ;)

I know All-Star thing will probably be your answer but, really
They could of kept it, personally I don't think it was hurting anything and the only thing it did was make them more money.

I think yahoo's biggest issue was trying to limit the cheating by creating things like the 24 hour rule, they opened even bigger holes. But I remember before that, there was cheating in maybe the top 200..but after that, it was mostly real competition.

Here is another question, when I look at the chess ladder, I see that the first 40 spots are active names. first of all, doesn't anyone know who's names they are? Secondly, how would they have gotten there without somehow resetting all the inactive names?

yeah..i think that will be the case..i remember when u could rename yahoo ids so if u had...shadow223 u could make it ___shadow___ ...i was around then! I never made any rares though! doh..im silly..i guess yahoo doesnt care bout deactivated ids though...some originals might be deactivated too so ppl can make them! :)

Ladder doesn't work.
John probably does have a couple ids still going but im pretty sure he also puts wins on them, I will check and see if he does anyway I don't see the point of still controlling something that most people don't have access to.

Yeah john clings on to it! Not my thing but..eh...his choice and i wont argue with him/judge him, just before ladder stopped anyways...yahoo did random resets every few days..probably to make it fun and competitive coz they already had all star planned...i was reset to #1 so instead of giving rits and john the id back and #1 i got seatalk and justin (snowbumz) to try n take 300, i told them i didnt want ladder but i wanted top 10..that was cool for me, we worked hard but only took the top 250, john had like 250-800, if an id in the 250-300 part was reset to #1 we lost it!!It happened...so what i mean is john and rits controlled most of the top 1000!!!!Alot of the ids still in ladder will belong to them coz they literally controlled it at the end! I like being rits' thawn! :)..hes cool though but ...its fun...he now calls me "A yahoo badboy" hehe....and he does that cool "Eieieie" thing @ me :)..sorry to write so much and bore u :)..thanx for readin
